PERSONALITY: Many say that it is quite hard to describe Atticus. Why is this you ask? Well that is shockingly simple. You will get many different answers depending on which person you ask about him. His friends believe him to be one way, his enemies another, his family a completely other, and so on so forth. Does this make him a fake, untrue individual? Well I will let you decide that.
Let us begin with how he is viewed by those who do not know him well and his enemies. Atticus seems arrogant to these many people. He seems to be quite judgmental, and he has this look that could make you melt into a puddle of insulted goo. He does not seem kind in any way or form and is basically never seen smiling. His lips are typically strained into a thin line that always seems to make him look rather unapproving of everyone and everything around him. Basically, many people who are not close to him and his enemies make attempts at avoiding him. He can be harsh with his words and does not let himself lose. In other words, watch out.
Now how do those he considers friends view Atticus? Well they absolutely adore him. He has this highly flamboyant way of acting, and he is quite comfortable with his sexuality. He is always quite energetic, always has a funny little comment, and can always be relied upon. He even has this smile that could make even the coldest of hearts melt. He seems to have such a kind heart that causes him to want to help and take care of all of his friends. He tries to fix any problem that his friends have, no matter how difficult they may be to fix. Atticus also is always quite confident around his friends. He has no problem voicing his opinions, but he is always respectful of the opinions of his friends. Basically, Atticus is one of those perfect friends that anyone would be lucky to have around.
Finally, there is the way that Atticus acts around his family, and in rare cases, his absolute closest of friends. Atticus seems quite insecure. He is always afraid that he will never live up to the expectations of his parents and that he will end up alone with nothing to show for his hard work. Also, he is also quite afraid of messing up and being wrong, a Chopin should never mess up, it is simply bad form. Atticus tends to be quite silent around his family and avoids his parents at every chance he can. He doesn't want to here lectures on how he must further be perfect and work constantly to become like all of the other Chopin. Failure is simple not an option.
So here we see three completely different personalities, and I believe you can now understand how many are so confused by Atticus. I will leave it up to you to figure out which personality reveals the truest Atticus, and is he fake? Well, have fun with those thoughts because who knows if we will ever know for sure.
HISTORY: What could have possibly made such a mixed up possibly fake individual? Well, there have been several attempts at explaining this, and this has created several theories.
The first theory is the parent theory. The Chopins are one of the richest families in all of the South East. The money began far back when the family owned one of the most prosperous cotton plantations in South Carolina. Of course, this eventually evolved to a prosperous publishing company...yeah quite a jump right? Aaron Chopin is the current head of the prosperous publishing company centered in Greenville, and he met the southern belle who went by the name of Rose Thompson, another prominent southern family. She was pretty and attracted to money, and Aaron had money and liked pretty. This was obviously a match made in...well most would say heaven, but to most it did seem like a rather shallow love.
They eventually produced a child who they named Atticus. He was raised as a proper little southern gentleman and had private tutors at a young age who made sure that he would be prepared for school. Yeah, throughout this Atticus was spoiled rotten. After all, his family was filthy rich, but high expectations were also put upon poor Atticus. He was expected to be perfect at all times, and he was always taught that the Chopin family was better than everyone else. This seems to explain several traits of Atticus' personality. Too many expectations and having to act like he is perfect? Seems like it could easily explain the way that Atticus acts. When he began attending school it only became worse. After all, he had to compete with other people and expectations rose.
The second theory is that Atticus is gay. Many say this explains his insecurities with his family and how he acts among his friends. Atticus loves being gay, and he is glad that he eventually let all of his friends know. He is rather comfortable with it and believes that is why he is so happy amongst his friends. They accept him and he can act a little wild around them. However, even though his parents act as though they are okay with this choice, Atticus is always afraid that his parents are disappointed because he is no longer perfect. So while coming out seemed to be so wonderful, could it have caused problems in Atticus' life? This is extremely possible. Would he ever change that he came out? Would he ever say that he never thought about acting as though he was straight to appease his parents? He would like to say no...but who knows if that is true.
The third and final theory is that Atticus is far too eccentric for his own good. How do we put this bluntly? He is damn smart. He is typically always at the top of his classes, and he always works extremely hard. He also has a vivid imagination that seems to have a mind of its own. He can often be found daydreaming in his free time or losing himself in a classic novel. Many say this imagination and intelligence is responsible for at least the first two sections of his personality. It could be possible that he actually is fake and loves the drama of it all. Is he satisfied with one life? Does he wish to live several different lives? Well it is quite possible. However, shouldn't he be receiving some kind of help with that? Probably, but who knows if these rumors are even true.
The problem with all of these theories is simply that each of them only account for two of his personalities. Basically, it could quite possible be a mixture of all three of this theories, or perhaps just two of them. To end, Atticus is complicated, and good luck with attempts at figuring him out and deciding who he truly is. Many have tried, and many think they have the answer, but do they truly?

ohai, my name is gare, and i'm nineteen. i've been in this game for way too long, and you can contact me via pm, and i found this place by annnn ad.[/i] Miles was snatched away from his novel daydream by a pair of rude teenagers who were standing at the counter waving a copy of ‘Shakespeare for Dummies’ at him. He stared them down over the top of the book before he placed his book gently upon the desk and stood up, walking over to the pair of boys. He snatched the book from the boy’s hand before scanning the barcode on it followed by the boy’s library card. ”You book is due back in a week, and if you are interested…we have a wide range of the books for dummies series for you future reading pleasure.” Miles grinned a bit as he then turned away from the boys and walked back to his chair where he sat down again and immediately picked back up his book. The boys glared at Miles before muttering under their breath and making their way out of the library.
The rolling cart made a soft squeak with each rotation of its wheels as it made its way between one of the many rows of shelves that were laden with their load of books. As the cart wheeled down this particular row of shelves, it would pause from time to time so that the red haired boy pushing it could take a book off of it and place it on an open spot between two books upon the shelves before he moved on. This process was repeated several times, and the boy whistled the familiar tune to Greensleeves as he went. From time to time the boy would also pause to pull a book from the shelves. He would usually thumb through it for a moment before placing it back in its correct place on the shelf.
Eventually, Miles, the boy pushing the cart, depleted said cart of its load of books. He then wheeled it in the immediate direction of the front desk of the sprawling library, still humming as he went. When he reached the desk, he parked the cart beside it and nimbly hopped over the desk before plopping down upon the comfy rolly chair that sat behind it. He picked an open book up off of the desk and began where he had left off when he had been asked to go put away some of the returned books. The cover of the book read, “This Side of Paradise, by F. Scott Fitzgerald,” and it seemed that Miles was currently halfway through the book.
He relaxed back in his seat with a sigh as his eyes began to scan the pages in front of him in a quick manner. As he continued to read the novel, he was shot back into the shoes of young Amory Blaine. Amory was the type of individual that Miles wished he could be. Amory was shockingly intelligent and a master of social interactions. Sure, Miles had the intellect part down by far, but he was most definitely lacking in the area of social prowess. However, this book allowed him to be Amory Blaine. With his rampant imagination, Miles was actually able to make the story feel real and as though he was living it through the eyes of Amory Blaine himself. This was where Miles found solace from the world around him that refused to accept him.
“HEY! Dude, I need to check this book out like…now.”
Miles loved volunteering at the library, except for the times that he had to deal with the stupid people who were making their yearly excursion into the library to find some single help book to use for some class that they had decided to put a bit of effort into. It was awfully frustrating. He sat back once more and propped his feet up on the desk in front of him as the pages seemed to fly before him. His whistling began once more too. He seemed to be rather stuck on Greensleeves today, simply could not shake it from his mind. As his mind was lost to the catchy little tune he found himself yanked back into the adventurous world of Amory Blaine. It seemed that today would, once more, be a day of Miles wishing he was some fictional character that had stronger personality traits then he did. It was actually rather shocking how often this tended to be on the daily agenda.
